WELCOME TO BIRCHMOUNT BLUFFS
NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE (BBNC)
BBNC is a charitable,
multi-service organization that offers a broad range
of recreational,
social and learning programs. We welcome all members
of our community to participate
in our programs and services.
We believe that the full inclusion
of persons of different abilities and backgrounds enhances
the quality of life for all, and invite our community
to partner with us in building an even richer,
more caring centre.
CHILDREN’S
PROGRAMS
Children enjoy quality artistic
and recreational programs such as Children’s Art
and Karate.
In partnership with West Scarborough Neighbourhood Centre,
we also offer a Boys and Girls
Club. Its social, recreational and educational programs
emphasize fair play and leadership.
YOUTH SERVICES
To address the diverse interests
of our community’s youth, BBNC offers many quality
services
and programs. These include counseling, dynamic after-school
drop-in programs and a Youth Advisory Committee.
The Youth Employment Project (Y.E.P)
The Youth Employment Project is an
innovative youth project of Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood
Centre whose objectives are to decrease barriers and
increase access to pre-employment services.
With the support of several community
partners including Human Resources Skills Development
Canada and The City of Toronto, BBNC offers 3 week long,
full-time Life skills and Pre-employability workshops
to unemployed youth aged 15-30 years, on a monthly basis.
In the YEP program, participants
learn a wide range of skills, including:
· How to obtain and maintain a job
· The ins and outs of resumes and cover letters,
· Interview techniques that work
· Stress management skills
· Interacting with co-workers
FAMILY RESOURCE
CENTRE
The Family resource Centre (FRC) provides programs for
parents, caregivers and their
children, aged 5 years and under. An annual membership
of $40 is required for participation
in FRC programs.
Programs include parent and caregiver
drop-ins facilitated by skilled, caring staff, as well
as parenting workshops and parent relief. Through the
Early Years Program, BBNC also
provides many stimulating programs, such as Rhyme Time
and Super Science.
Our inclusive nursery school offers
a stimulating learning environment for children, aged
2.5
to 5 years. Morning and afternoon sessions are available.
INTEGRATED AND DISABILITY PROGRAMS
BBNC’S Integrated and
Disability Programs (IDP) are designed to provide quality,
inclusive
services that address the diverse active-living and
wellness needs of persons with disabilities
and illnesses.
Our services include information
and referral services, counseling and advocacy as well
as
many social, recreational and wellness programs.
In keeping with our inclusive vision,
the program facilitates access to most of BBNC’s
mainstream programs. We also offer several adapted programs,
including Chair Yoga,
Tai Chi, Barrier-Free Swimming Project, Peer Support
Club and Drop-in dance.
ADULT FITNESS AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS
For those interested in fitness
and wellness programs, a wide array of classes taught
by
qualified instructors is available. To facilitate choice,
classes are offered in both the daytime
and evening, and many are designed to accommodate persons
of different physical ability levels.
OLDER ADULT PROGRAMS
BBNC welcomes older adults in
our community of all backgrounds and abilities to participate
in our programs. We provide a warm, caring environment
that fosters the development of
belonging and a strong sense of community.
Among the many older adult programs
to choose from, there are fitness classes, Aqua Fitness
classes, drop-in programs such as Bridge and Euchre,
and out trips to major attractions.
Given BBNC’s inclusive vision,
older adults are naturally free to enjoy all of the
adult programs offered at BBNC. Older adult programs
are designed for those aged 60 years and over. An
annual seniors membership is currently $15.
FUNDING SOURCES
BBNC’s funding sources
